European Amateur Chess Championship 2024 kicked off in Croatia

The European Amateur Chess Championship 2024 commenced yesterday in Mali Losinj, Croatia.

The Opening ceremony of the event took place shortly before the first round, with the attendance of the ECU Vice President Mr. Alojzije Jankovic who addressed the players and made the first ceremonial move before the start of the games.

The Championship is played in three rating sections: U1700, U2000 and U2300, and gathers 82 players from 16 European federations, including two players from Guadalupe, overseas region of France located 8000km far from Paris: Xavier Lycaon (FRA, 1976) & Lionel Douglas (FRA, 1813).

The top seeded players in U1700 section are Mario Covic (CRO, 1683), Ilker Pazarcioglu (TUR, 1666), and Sinisa Vranjkovic (CRO, 1662). Xavier Lycaon (FRA, 1976), Aleksandar Zubic (SRB, 1962) and Iliia Lunin Bohomolets (ESP, 1960) headline the field in the U2000 seciton. And the rating favourites in the U2300 category are Muhamet Asllani (KOS, 2232), FM Carlos Salgado Allaria (ESP, 2219), and CM Korab Saraci (KOS, 2186).
