European Amateur Chess Championship 2024 – Official regulations

The European Amateur Chess Championship 2024 will take place from 24th August – 1st September 2024 at the Losinj island, in the city of Mali Losinj, Croatia.

The event will be played in three rating categories: U2300, U2000, and U1700, and it’s open to all players registered or approved by their national federations listed as the ECU members.

In order to be eligible to participate in the tournament, the players must fulfill the following conditions:

  • All players must not hold any title above CM (or WCM for women) in the sections Under-1700 and Under-2000.
  • All players must not hold any title above FM (or WFM for women) in the section Under-2300.
  • A player must not have a published FIDE rating of 2300 or greater for at least one year prior to the registration deadline of the event.
  • For the Under-2000 section, a player must not have a published FIDE rating of 2000 or greater for at least one year prior to the start of the championship.
  • For the Under-1700 section, a player must not have a published FIDE rating of 1700 or greater for at least one year prior to the start of the championship.
  • In case a player exceeds the rating of 1700 or 2000 after the registration deadline, he/she will play in the upper rating category.

Each tournament will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, and separate Women’s competitions will be organized if there are at least 10 women players registered in the category. Otherwise, the Women’s sections will be merged with the Open competition, with separate rankings.

The rate of play will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

The events will be played in ****Hotel Aurora, and the accommodation is provided in the ****Hotel Vespera.

The total prize fund of the events is 4.000 euros and the distribution of prizes is shown below. The winners of women categories receive the relevant title: “European Women Amateur Chess Champion under 1700 under 2000 and 2300.”

On demand the organizers will provide transportation to the official hotel on August 24th (arrival) and 1st/2nd (day of departure). The price of a one-way transport ticket on the days of arrival and departure is: Airport Rijeka (Krk)* – Mali Losinj 75,00 €; Airport Pula* – Mali Losinj 85,00 €; Airport Zagreb – Mali Losinj 100,00 €.

Each participant must register for the competition no later than June 1st, 2024. The registration must include the surname, first name, FIDE ID number of each player and should be sent by e-mail to: hss.crochess@gmail.com
