European Senior Team Chess Championship 2024 starts in Terme Catez, Slovenia

The European Senior Team Chess Championship 2024 starts tomorrow in Terme Catez, Slovenia, and will be held from 7-16 May.

The event is played in two age categories: 50+ and 65+, and each team consists of four players plus one reserve player. The Championships are played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds increment for every move played.

The official venue of the event and the official hotel will beĀ ****Terme Catez Hotel.

52 teams coming from 20 European federations registered for the event and the top seeds in the 50+ category are: Italy (2440, average rating of players), England 1 (2436, average rating of players), and Iceland (2394, average rating of players).

Among the top-rated players who participate in the event are: GM Alberto David (ITA, 2525), GM Stuart Conquest (ENG, 2510), GM Johann Hjartarson (ISL, 2460), GM John Emms (ENG, 2451), and GM Michele Godena (ITA, 2440).

The top-seeded teams in the 65+ section are Slovenia 1 (2387, average rating of players), England 1 (2354, average rating of players), and Slovakia 2 (2294, average rating of players). The Opening ceremony of the event will take place shortly before the 1st round, which is scheduled for Tuesday 7th of May, 15:00 CEST.
