The second round of the European Women’s Chess Championship 2024 was played yesterday. As many as 24 players tie for the top scoring maximum 2/2 points.
Many of the top 10 seeds suffered upsets in the first two rounds, except from the rating favourite IM Yuliia Osmak (UKR, 2459) and 7th-seed IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO, 2447). IM Yuliia Osmak was victorious against her compatriot GM Natalia Zhukova (UKR, 2301) and IM Lela Javakhshvili defeated WIM Anna Kubicka (POL, 2292).
WIM Michalina Rudzinska (POL, 2302) drew with whites against the second-seed IM Marsel Efroimski (ISR, 2457) as the game quickly transposed to a drawn rooks endgame. IM Dinara Wagner (GER, 2453) was black against WGM Sarah Papp (GER, 2296) and had a troublesome position. Papp missed her chance to win the game and agreed to a draw with a clear edge on the board. GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL, 2447) and WGM Hanna Marie Klek (GER, 2294) played a balanced game and the evaluation was equal for the whole game.
