The European Youth Chess Championship 2024 concluded yesterday in Prague, Czech Republic. The event gathered 1230 players coming from 47 European federations, who competed in 6 age categories: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18, open and girls sections separately.
The Awarding ceremony took place yesterday evening, with the attendance of the ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, ECU Vice President Mr. Malcolm Pein, ECU Tournament Director Mr. Petr Pisk, the president of the Czech Chess Federation Mr. Martin Petr, tournament director Mr. Jan Mazuch, Chairman of ECU Arbiters Council Mr. Geert Bailleul, Chief Arbiter of the event Mr. Marco Biagioli and other distinguished guests.
Hu Junyan (ENG, 1720) emerged as the sole Winner of the U8 section, scoring 8 points. Timofei Demchenko (ESP, 1769) claimed silver medal with 7.5 points and Markiyan Hanas (UKR, 1652) won bronze with 7 points and the best tiebreaks in a group of three players who tied for third.
Carla-Ioana Marchis (ROU, 1577) triumphed in the Girls U8 section with the score of 7.5 points. Lile Svanadze (GEO, 1472) and Eliza-Ioana Badescu (ROU, 1678) tied for silver scoring 7 points each, but Lile Svanadze came second with better tiebreaks, and Eliza-Ioana Badescu won bronze medal.
Ali Poyraz Uzdemir (TUR, 2008) claimed gold in Open U10 section, scoring 8 points. Boris Kolodziejczyk (FRA, 1983) won silver with 7.5 points, and CM Llari Marc (FRA, 2224) clinched bronze with 7 points and the best tiebreak criteria in the group of 3 players who had the same score.
Svitlana Russieva (UKR, 1597) won the Girls U10 competition scoring 7.5 points, while three players tied for second place scoring 7 points, each. Yuefan Chen (GER, 1682) had the best tiebreaks to clinch silver, and Lila Rzadkowska (POL, 1794) won bronze.
As many as three players tied for the first place in the Open U12 category, scoring 7.5 points each. Wiktor Golis (POL, 2216) had the best tiebreak criteria to clinch gold, CM Tyhran Ambartsumian (ARM, 2156) came second and CM Antoni Radzimski (POL, 2062) claimed bronze.
Varvara Matskevich (POL, 1956) scored convincing 8.5/9 points in Girls U12 section to clinch the tournament, while three players tied for second place with 7 points each. Zeynep Duru Sahin (TUR, 1698) had the best tiebreaks to win silver medal, and Senem Gul Bassari (TUR, 1774) came third.
IM Vaclav Finek (CZE, 2467) emerged as the sole Winner of the U14 section with the score of 8 points. FM Bayarjavkhlan Delgerdalai (CZE, 2278) claimed silver with 7.5 points and FM Felix-Antonio Ilinca (ROU, 2386) won bronze with 7 points and best tiebreaks among the three players who tied for third.
WFM Vera Vujovic (SRB, 2175) was the top-seeded player in Girls U14 section and won gold medal scoring 8 points. Mariam Kalandadze (GEO, 1826) clinched silver with 7.5 points, and WFM Kesaria Mgeladze (GEO, 2152) won bronze scoring 7 points, with the best tiebreaks criteria in a group of four players with the same score.
IM Marco Materia (FRA, 2457) and FM Benik Agasarov (ARM, 2387) tied for first in the Open U16 section, with the score of 7.5 points each. Marco Materia clinched gold thanks to better tiebreak criteria and Benik Agasarov came second. Two players tied for third scoring 7 points, each, but IM Aksel Bu Kvaloy (NOR, 2487) won bronze medal thanks to better tiebreaks.
Tiebreaks criteria deteremined the Winner in Girls U16 section, as six players scored 7 points each to tie for gold. Klara Szczotka (POL, 2053) had the best tiebreak criteria and won the tournament, WFM Alexandra Shvedova (ITA, 2219) came second and WCM Elif Zeren Yildiz (TUR, 1934) finished in the third place.
IM Timothe Razafindratsima (FRA, 2457) emerged as the sole Winner of the Open U18 section with the score of 7.5 points. IM Arsen Davtyan (ARM, 2402) won silver with 7 points, and FM Sohan Belkaid (FRA, 2384) clinched bronze with the same score but lower tiebreaks.
WFM Noga Orian (ISR, 2201) triumphed in the Girls U18 section scoring 7.5 points, while two players tied for second with 7 points each. Izabela Tokarz (POL, 1941) had better tiebreak criteria and claimed silver, while WFM Mariia Manko (SUI, 2159) came third.
