Everything is set for the European Youth Team Chess Championship 2024 which is taking place from 20-28 June in Rhodes, Greece. It is co-organised by the Chess Club of Rhodes “Ippotis” and the Region of South Aegean.
The event is played in two age categories: U12 and U18, open and girls sections separately. Teams in the Open section feature four players + one reserve player, and in the Girls’ section the teams consist of three players + one reserve player. Each tournament will be played in 7 rounds, swiss system, with time control of 90 min for the whole game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from move 1.
57 teams from 16 European federations registered for the Championship and the event set a participation record. The top-seeded teams in U12 category are: Poland (average rating of players 2194), Romania (average rating of players 2061), and Hungary (average rating of players 2016). In GU12 section, Hungary (average rating of players 1862) headlines the field together with Poland (average rating of players 1853) and Germany (average rating of players 1785). Israel (average rating of players 2468) is the rating favourite in U18 section, together with Poland (average rating of players 2435) and Armenia (average rating of players 2425). Poland (average rating of players 2236), Israel/Blue (average rating of players 2120) and Germany 1 (average rating of players 2045) are the top-seeded teams in GU18 category.

The event officially commences on Friday, June 21st with the Captains meeting scheduled for 10:00, while the first round starts at 16:00. The Opening ceremony of the event will take place shortly before the start of the first round.

Titles & Prizes
The winning team will receive the title “European Youth Champion Team 2024” in its respective category. The winning team of the combined age category of the competition (sum of the match points from both tournaments open & girls, then, if equal, sum of the game points) receives the title “Absolute European Youth Champion Team 2024” in its respective age category. The first three teams in each competition will receive trophies and medals. ECU Certificates for all participants will be awarded.
